Anchors and Rodes

Driven by the wind, powered by the sun, steered by the wind. Sail now

“Hirta” is extremely well equipped with four anchors and four rodes. She is set up for anchoring in fairly extreme conditions. The variety of heavy ground tackle, combined with the twin riding sail have never let her down.

Anchor and rode 1

The main bower anchor is a 35lbs (16kg) Manson Supreme (2016)

This anchor has 50m of 8mm chain with another 50m of 14mm ochtoplait spliced on The chain is properly attached to anchor through a swivel and some links of chain

The kedge anchor is a 35 lbs (16kg) Mantus M2 (2022)

This anchor has 8m of 8mm chain with 50 metres of 14mmochtoplait spliced on

Anchor and rode 3

The third anchor is a 24lbs (genuine) CQR

This anchor has 10m of 10mm chain and 50m of hawser laid 3 strand 12mm nylon

Anchor and rode 4

The fourth anchor is a 24lbs fishermans anchor

This anchor has 7m of 10mm chain and 60m of assorted 3 strand long spliced

The combinations of the components of the last two anchors and rodes are easily changed

Snubbers

There is a short snubber equipped with a standard chain hook and a very much longer (back to the stern) storm snubber with a seriously strong chain attachment. Both of these snubbers are 16mm nylon rope

The 7m of 10mm chain is also identified as the tail weight of the Jordan Series Drogue
