Making the Nets

By 1975 Fascadale was buying its nets “ready made” mainly from Aberdeen or Montrose. The Aberdeen nets usually had orange mesh, the Montrose nets were grey. These nets were all made of synthetic materials

In amongst the Fascadale materials shared by Dochie Cameron were detailed instructions for the making of nets. These papers are all from the Powrie era, some typed some handwritten and in a variety of hands. It is reasonable to assume that in earlier times nets were “hand made” at Fascadale.

These “Fascadale made” nets would have been made entirely of traditional natural fibre materials, hemp or manila rope, cotton twine, tarred twine and cork floats
