This article is interesting for a number of reasons. It illustrates the conflict between the salmon netsmen and the salmon anglers. In this case two netting stations are closed so as, the anglers would argue, more fish could make their way into the River Sheil to provide sport for the anglers and income for the proprietors
This conflict between the nets and the rods continued into the 21st Century when the Scottish government finally banned netting. Angling continues as a profitable business
The article also notes the change from boiling the salmon to icing the catch before sending to market
